No Where to Hide
The deluge is finally coming. In an excellent piece this morning, Jennifer Rubin notes that “Defeated former president Donald Trump just had a really bad week.” In New York, the state attorney general, Letitia James, has compiled evidence that Trump and his adult children conspired to revalue his assets to meet the needs of who was asking for the valuation – always in Trump’s favor, of course. This is not a criminal case but the financial liability for Trump could be enormous. At the same time the Manhattan district attorney Alvin Bragg has kept two attorneys who are working a criminal case against Trump and his organization.
In Georgia, the Fulton County D.A. Fani Willis has requested a special grand jury in her investigation of criminal misconduct by Trump in the 2020 Georgia election, and Brian Raffensperger, the Georgia Secretary of State has indicated he will cooperate with such a grand jury. This is also a criminal investigation with the possibility of prison time for Trump and his cabal if convicted.
And the House January 6 Committee just keeps going and going. Over 400 witnesses and mounds of documents and electronic files have been acquired (see cartoon above). Today, the Washington Post reports that former Attorney General Bill Barr has spoken with the January 6 Committee. It is interesting that Barr resigned 2 days before a draft Executive Order was drafted that would have directed the military to seize voting machines and create a special counsel to investigate election fraud – the nonexistent Big Lie that Trump clings to even as I type.
Once the evidence has been compiled, the January 6 Committee will hold televised hearings on Trump’s favorite medium, prime-time television. I definitely will watch and I will urge everyone else to watch as well. Louis Brandeis said, “Sunlight is said to be the best of disinfectants.” For the sake of our democracy, may all of the seekers of truth and justice expose Trump for the sociopath and grifter that he is and has always been.
